The project Where the place – Upon the heath presents two authors whose work is permeated by common features. Both concentrate on expressing of fundamental moments of human experience. Issues of birth, wounding and death play a key role here. Their significance for the development and forming of consciousness is retained and elaborated on many situational levels and in many content facets. Each of the artists develops the theme by means of expression of a different medium.
Ivan Pinkava examines the sense of transitoriness of human existence in black and white photographs, whereas Josef Bolf finds an appropriate medium for introspection in drawing and creation of paintings. Both in the photographs and in the paintings we meet an intentionally stylized world which seems to be hermetically sealed. The impermeability and consequent conciseness of the scene force the viewer to concentrate their attention. Under the authors’ direction we are adamantly confronted with mortality, as death concerns us all. On this level, the interconnection of the author and the viewer emerges.
