For the last ten years, London-based Scala Arts & Heritage Publishers Ltd. has been publishing an edition called Director's Choice, which presents the world's major museums and galleries through the eyes of their directors. The latest addition to this edition is a selection by Roman Musil, Director of the West Bohemian Gallery in Pilsen, which presents 37 important works from the institution's extensive art collections in Czech and English. The book includes works from the mid-14th century to the end of the 20th century.
The Gallery of West Bohemia in Pilsen is thus included in an exclusive selection of world institutions such as the Albertina in Vienna, the National Gallery in London, the Alte and Neue Pinakothek in Munich, the Frick Collection in New York, and the Staatliche Museen in Berlin. In the same year as the publication of the Gallery of West Bohemia in Pilsen, a book was published by the Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg and the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao. The museums and galleries represented are spread over 22 countries on 3 continents.
The Gallery of West Bohemia in Pilsen is only the second Czech institution and the first Czech gallery to be included in this prestigious edition - the first was the Museum of Decorative Arts in Prague in 2017.
