The catalogue ‘Then I Saw a New Heaven and a New Earth …’ The Apocalypse and Art in the Czech Lands was conceived as an accompanying publication to the eponymous exhibition, which took place at the Gallery of West Bohemia in Pilsen from October 2023 to March 2024. A team of authors from the Institute of Art History of the Czech Academy of Sciences explored a wide range of inspirations from the biblical text Revelation of St. John, known as the Apocalypse, in visual art, music, and literature in the Czech lands from the Middle Ages to the present day.
The ceremonial announcement of the 2023 Most Beautiful Czech Books competition took place on Wednesday, June 12, at the Technology Center of the Academy of Arts, Architecture, and Design in Prague. The expert commission focuses on the overall design of the book, typography, cover, illustrations, and the connection between the visual aspect and the text. The catalogue was created by experienced and repeatedly awarded graphic designers Adéla Svobodová and Tereza Hejmová, with whom the Gallery of West Bohemia in Pilsen has collaborated before. Adéla Svobodová is known for catalogues for exhibitions such as Kubišta – Filla. Pilsen Disputation; From the Academy to Nature, and together they created publications for the exhibitions Go to the Countryside! and Palms on the Vltava.
The publication was issued by the Gallery of West Bohemia in Pilsen in cooperation with the Artefactum publishing house.
